Blanchester Intermediate School fifth grader Matt East has qualified for the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship Dec. 5-8 in Las Vegas.

East qualified in the breakaway roping competition in the 10 and under age group. East, who just turned 11, was 10 when he qualified for the national event.

There is expected to be more than 400 contestants from 31 states, including Hawaii, and three Canadian provinces in Las Vegas during the four-day event.

A live webcast of the event can be found at www.johnsonsportsline.com.

East is sponsored by Midwest Eye Center, MowTime Lawn Care LLC and Cottonwood Farm.

There are nine different events within four different age groups. Each champion will earn a payout of $10,000 to $20,000 in cash, according to Sherrylynn Johnson, the event organizer and four-time qualifier for the National Finals Rodeo.
