JCU tops WC swim teams on Senior Day

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington College men’s and women’s swim teams lost meets to John Carroll University Saturday at the WC natatorium.

The Blue Streaks defeated the Fightin’ Quakers women 171-87.

John Carroll was a 205-57 winner against the WC men’s team.

“Today was our last dual meet of the season and another great opportunity to compete prior to the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships next month,” WC head coach Trip Breen said. “The tough workouts are just about over and we are just about ready to begin our taper. Athletically we wanted to focus on fine tuning a few things and have one more opportunity to race.

“We also wanted to celebrate our senior class and show appreciation for their hard work, loyalty, friendship and commitment to Wilmington College and our swimming program this afternoon. Many thanks to Rebecca Curran, Samantha Harter, Laura Swinehart … Brody Morris and Jared Shoemaker.”

In the women’s meet, Macki Leon won two individual events, turning in times of 2:16.70 in the 200-meter freestyle and 1:13.51 in the 100-meter IM. The junior also finished second in the 100-meter backstroke (1:12.19).

Fellow junior Margaret Hover also tallied three top-three finishes, claiming runner-up honors in both the 50-meter freestyle (29.45 seconds) and 400-meter freestyle (5:09.62). She also finished third in the 800-meter freestyle (10:35.29).

Fynn Roberts recorded a trio of second-place finishes, touching the pad in 37.29 seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke, 1:21.05 in the 100-meter breaststroke and 1:16.90 in the 100-meter IM.

Hannah Davis earned a second-place finish in the 50-meter butterfly (34.20 seconds) and took third in the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.69). Senior Rebecca Curran placed third in both the 50-meter breaststroke (38.65 seconds) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:26.74). Additionally, Alyssa Harper’s time of 36.14 seconds in the 50-meter butterfly placed her third.

Wilmington’s 200-meter freestyle relay squad of Hover, Anna Endsley, Davis and Leon finished runner-up with a time of 1:59.34.

In the men’s meet, Isak Alin had three top-three finishes including winning the 100-meter IM with a time of 1:02.38. The sophomore also claimed runner-up honors in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:11.03) and placed third in the 50-meter breaststroke (31.96 seconds).

Aaron Polk was the other individual to record multiple top-three finishes for the Quakers. Polk took third in the 100-meter butterfly (1:08.30) and the 800-meter freestyle (9:45.31). Additionally, Logan Schroer took third in the 400-meter freestyle (4:40.64).

Schroer also teamed with Ian Darras, Reed Ashcraft and Shoemaker to post a time of 1:50.48 and take second in the 200-meter freestyle relay.

Wilmington will have a couple weeks off before returning to the pool for the OAC Championships, held at Akron University’s Ocasek Natatorium from Feb. 13-15.
