ADA — The Wilmington College men’s track and field team finished sixth Saturday at the Joe Banks Invitational at Ohio Northern University.
The distance medley relay team of Taton Bertsch, Aaron Koch, Josh Cyrus and Simon Heys beat the entire field by more than 25 seconds with a time of 10:47.66. It the lone first-place finish for Wilmington in the meet.
The women’s team placed seventh. In field events, Kayli Sullivan placed in two events — sixth-place in the weight throw 45-7 and seventh in the shot put 35-6.75. Madison Dietz was seventh in the triple jump 28-3.
In track events, Emma Burke was the lone individual to place in two events. The senior finished sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:06.07) and eighth in the 50-meter hurdles (9.97 seconds).
Cheyenne Rhodes was seventh in the 500-meter run (1:27.13). Sydney Yontz crossed the line fifth in the 1,000-meter run (3:17.65) while Milena Wahl was sixth in the 5,000-meter (19:14.23).
Two Wilmington relays also scored. The distance medley relay of Katie Hughes, Sidney Fields, Yontz and Wahl crossed the finish third with a time of 13:52.07 while the 4-x-400-meter relay team of Burke, Rhodes, Fields and Miranda Gibson earned a fifth-place finish by turning in a time of 4:22.13.
For the WC men, Anthony Gilmore (6-2) and Jeff Clydesdale (6-0) placed sixth and eighth respectively in the high jump while Max Queen was sixth in the long jump (20-9.75). In throws, Blake Jamison placed fourth in the shot put (44-4.25) and Joe Shuga took ninth in the weight throw (46-4.25).
In track events, Heys earned a runner-up finish in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:35.37, the sixth-fastest in the event in program history. Evan Whitaker scored a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run (15:39.66) and Bertsch crossed the finish line in 2:01.47 in the 800-meter run.
The 4-x-400-meter relay team of Koch, Queen, Bertsch and Clydesdale finished sixth with a time of 3:42.28.
The Quakers return to action Friday at the Cedarville Indoor Invitational.
