WESTERVILLE – Senior Kayli Sullivan tallied two top-three finishes Sunday to highlight the Wilmington College women’s track and field team at the indoor season-opener at Otterbein University.

The senior’s heave of 48-4 was good for second place in the weight throw. Olivia Hurtt of John Carroll University won the event with a throw of 51-7. Sullivan also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 33-10, just two inches behind the runner-up Kelsey Dunn from John Carroll.

Madison Dietz competed in both the 200-meter dash (30.88 seconds) and the long jump (15-7.75) and took fifth in both events. Freshman Lily Williford took fifth in the high jump (8-0.75) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (32.05 seconds) while Miranda Gibson finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:12.50) and also competed in the 200-meter dash.

Wilmington finished fourth in a field of five teams with 27 total points. John Carroll won the event with 241 points and were followed by Ohio Northern University (136 points) and host Otterbein (86 points). Capital University took fifth, scoring nine points.

“It was a pretty typical first meet of the season with nerves and shaking the rust off, but we are so happy to be competing after 11 months off,” head women’s track and field coach Ron Combs said. “I was really happy with our throwers. Tristan [Durr] and Alex [Fee] are building a great group.”

Wilmington will return to Columbus Saturday at Capital University.
