WILMINGTON — East Clinton banged out 17 hits Wednesday as the Lady Astros defeated Wilmington 10-8 in South Central Ohio League softball action at WHS.

East Clinton led 4-1 going to the bottom of the fifth. But the Lady Hurricane put five runs on the board in the third and grabbed a 6-4 lead. WHS had just two hits in the third but took advantage of several EC miscues.

Wilmington added a run in the fifth and led 7-4 as the two teams headed to the sixth inning. Madi Pirman singled home a run to make it 7-5 then Tressana Osborne plated a run with a hit to cut the difference to 7-6.

With two runners on Taylor Spence tripled to left to put the Lady Astros on top for good, 8-7. Madisyn Cox and Tori Bailey followed with RBI to put the visitors up 10-7.

Kelsi Bair drove in a run for WHS in the bottom of the sixth, 10-8. The Lady Hurricane put two runners on base in the seventh but were unable to score.

“Much deserved credit to East Clinton’s young pitchers for putting the ball over the plate,” WHS coach Glen Blessing said. “Hats off to their offense for hitting and bunting so well. It wasn’t overpowering, but (it was) effective.”

Bailey had three hits and three runs batted in. Osborne had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Taylor Boeckmann had three hits as did Pirman.
