The Hoop Dreams Basketball Camp, sponsored by the Friends of the Nike Center Board, celebrated its 8th year at the end of July.

The camp, designed for athletes with disabilities, was directed by Tony Mason and Randy McKamey. The Nike Center gymnasium was the center of activity for the 30 participants, ages 12 and up, as they were instructed in the essential skills of passing, dribbling and foul shooting.

On the last night, campers participated in hoop shoot and dribbling contests. The winner of the hoop shoot contest was Lydia Dell. Each camper received a camp T-shirt, a camp picture, a certificate of achievement and a basketball. Volunteers were honored for their excellent interaction with the athletes.

The Hoop Dreams Basketball Camp provides an opportunity for young adults who are differently abled to learn the fundamentals of basketball in a positive and fun environment, hopefully breaking down social barriers through a common love of the game.

This camp strives to provide each athlete with a strong core belief in his or her ability to overcome everyday challenges without frustration and is created to expand the overall recreational opportunities for people with disabilities.

To register for the 2016 season or to serve as a volunteer, access the Nike Center website at co.Clinton.oh.us/boardofdd and click on the Friends of the Nike Center link.
