PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — State-ranked Clinton-Massie lost its first softball game of the season Monday to Bloomdale Elmwood 3-2 in a non-league game played in Tennessee.

“This was a tough way to lose our first game but I told my girls it happens.” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “We will come back out tomorrow and play our game. This was not typical of how we play. Normally we play error free softball. Again, it happens. We will correct it and play Massie softball tomorrow.”

All three of the Royals runs were unearned, Lauer said.

Clinton-Massie had an 8-2 advantage in hits.

The Lady Falcons, 12-1 on the year, pulled within 3-2 on a two-run single by Claire Carruthers in the sixth inning.

Elmwood is 10-2 on the year.

Clinton-Massie was ranked No. 3 in Div. II in the Ohio High School Softball Coaches Association state poll released Monday.
