WHS sophomore McKenna playing softball in California

Wilmington High School sophomore Kendra McKenna will be playing softball in California over the several days, according to a press release submitted to the News Journal.

McKenna, who lives in Martinsville, is a catcher for the Oho Hawks Gold 14U team Last weekend, the Hawks were undefeated at the Great Lakes Summer Showcase in North Ridgeville.

This week, through Saturday, McKenna is playing in the PGF National tournament in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Beginning Sunday, McKenna will travel to Anaheim, Calif. to participate in the Jen Schro Catching Retreat as one of 29 catches who were chosen for the Retreat prior to registration being open.

To be chosen for the Retreat, athletes were asked to submit a video explaining why they chose their jersey number. McKenna wears No. 99 and said in the video the 99 “reminds her that there is always room for improvement. You can never be 100 percent at anything; there is always work to be done.”

Kendra is the daughter of Miles and Kristen McKenna.
