MT ORAB — The season ended for the Wilmington High School girls soccer team Monday with a 5-2 loss to Western Brown in a Div. II Sectional tournament match.

“The girls had a terrific soccer season and we’re very proud of their efforts and all they accomplished,” said WHS coach Kerry Lewis.

The Lady Hurricane finished with a 10-5-2 record and were second in the South Central Ohio League standings.

Wilmington had its chances early in the match against Western Brown but came up empty. Then “mistakes” in the 6th and 9th minutes by the Lady Hurricane back line and the Lady Broncos took a 2-0 lead, Lewis said.

Western Brown then scored off a corner kick and the Lady ’Cane trailed 3-0.

“It’s hard to beat a good team when you spot them three early goals,” said Lewis. “The girls were certainly disappointed in the outcome but it doesn’t diminish all their success throughout the season.”

Katlyn Jamiel scored a WHS goal with Drezden Beam notching her 15th assist. Bryah Arehart scored unassisted for Wilmington.

For the year, the Lady Hurricane established several individual and team records. The 10-win regular season ties the previous mark set in 2013 and 2014. The team scored a record 69 goals and 69 assists for 207 total points in a season.

Beam had 15 assists this season to set a new single season mark. Junior Savannah Morgan now holds the single season mark with 24 goals as well as 60 total points. Beam and fellow senior Arehart share the WHS career assist record with 33 each. Keeper Megan Borton also concludes her career with a record setting 11 shutouts.

Beam finishes her career 4th on the WHS scoring list with 133 total points behind all-time leaders Lauren Lewis 144 (Class of 2011), Morgan 139, and Allison White (Class of 2014) 134 total points.

The senior class wraps up its 2015 soccer season with the most wins (40), goals (215), assists (211), total points (641) and shutouts (18).
