WHS boys win tourney opener 4-2

TRENTON — The Wilmington High School boys soccer team defeated Edgewood 4-2 Tuesday in a Div. I Sectional match at EHS.

The Hurricane will now face No. 1 seed Mason 7 p.m. Saturday at MHS.

Mason is 14-0-2 on the year and ranked No. 2 in the state behind only Cleveland St. Ignatius.

“Hats off to our boys,” said WHS coach Imad El-Macharrafie. “They played exceptionally well. Balance, poise and courage is what won this game for our team. We will savior this moment as its been almost a decade-plus since we’ve moved to the second round of playoffs. Thanks to all our fans who came to support us.”

Four players scored one goal each for the Hurricane in the win — Ethan Powell, Sam Spirk, Avery Greenlees and Seth Gundlach.

Assists were recorded by Sam Spirk (2) and Charley Schumacher.
