WILMINGTON– Wilmington College senior student-athletes Savannah Hooper and David Henry were awarded the prestigious Clyde Lamb Award, given out by the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) earlier this week.
Now in its 20th year, the Clyde A. Lamb Award is presented annually to the top male and female senior student-athlete from each of the 10 OAC institutions. The recipient of the award must have participated for at least two years in an OAC-sponsored sport, have senior status, a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 and sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete and his or her institution.
A four-year member of the softball program and three-year member of the women’s basketball program, Savannah Hooper carries a cumulative 3.96 GPA and is a biology major with a chemistry minor.
She is a three-time All-OAC softball selection having garnered honorable mention honors in 2018, first team in 2017 and second team in 2016. Hooper leaves the program as its career leader in batting average (.382).
In women’s basketball, she averages 6.7 points per game having played in 79 contests in her career. Hooper also was a member of the 2016-17 Fightin’ Quakers who reached the OAC tournament final for the first time in a decade.
A seven-time Academic All-OAC selection, Hooper has tutored her peers in biology and chemistry as well as being an active member of Wilmington’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
David Henry lettered all four years as a member of the Wilmington football program. A sport management major with a 3.93 GPA, Henry is a three-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American including being named first team in 2015 and 2017. He holds the distinction of being the only Wilmington student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors three times.
On the field, Henry, a defensive lineman, made 206 total tackles with 33 of those being for loss, forced seven fumbles and made a dozen sacks. He was named Second Team All-OAC both as a sophomore and as a senior.
Twenty total student-athletes were honored at the banquet, which was held following the league-wide spring meetings at the Crowne Plaza in Worthington.
