East Clinton drops 5th set cliffhanger 16-14

LEES CREEK – In a fifth set cliffhanger, the East Clinton volleyball team lost to Bethel-Tate 25-20, 19-25, 25-19, 18-25, 14-16 Tuesday in an SBAAC National Division matchup at the EC gym on Senior Night.

“It was an especially tough loss but the girls never gave up and pushed,” EC coach Sarah Sodini said. “They didn’t play it safe, they played to win. They left it all on the court. I really feel like that fifth game could’ve gone either way.”

Prior to the match, East Clinton honored seniors Kaitlin Durbin, Kenzie Campbell, Megan Stewart, Lacey Peterman, Kaitlyn Talbott and Miranda Beener.

The final numbers had Peterman with three aces, a block, 21 assists and eight digs. Beener had four aces, two kills, two assists and 13 digs. Stewart contributed two aces, four kills, two blocks, two assists and four digs. Talbott chipped in with an ace. Durbin had two aces, a game-best 16 kills, a block, an assist and seven digs. Campbell had two aces, 13 kills, a block, two assists and 15 digs.

Myah Jones had five aces, four kills, two blocks, 11 assists and six digs. Gracie Evanshine had two kills and Emma Malone had three digs. Kiya Byrd totaled an ace and two digs.
