Local grads lead WC women at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Wilmington College women’s track & field team opened its indoor season at the Marietta College First Glimpse Meet on Saturday.

The Fightin’ Quakers took victory in the 5,000-meter run by way of freshman Katie Hughes, a Clinton-Massie graduate who finished in 20:24.23.

The Quaker distance medley relay team also took home a victory with the team of Hughes, Burke, Helmke and Savannah Rhodes (a Blanchester graduate) with a time of 14:34.24 and the 4-x-400-meter relay team took third with Cheyenne Rhodes (also a BHS grad), Miranda Gibson, Abbigail Spirk and Amber LaRotonda.

Freshman Kendra Stahl also took a first place finish for the Quakers in the 1,000-meter run clocking in at 4:02.98, with Jenna Kostecki finishing second.

Emma Burke made the finals and scored a third place finish in the 55-meter hurdles and ran for fourth in the 400-meter dash. Allison Helmke finished fourth in the mile run.

Kayli Sullivan led Wilmington throwers with a seventh place finish in the shot put.

Keva Cox qualified for the Ohio Athletic Conference meet in the high jump with a jump of 1.40 meters. Burke qualified in the 55-meter hurdles with her time of 9.06 seconds and Sullivan qualified with a throw of 10.88 meters.
