LEES CREEK – East Clinton dug itself out of an early hole Monday and defeated Blanchester 54-40 in an SBAAC National Division game at the EC gym.
The Lady Astros are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the division.
The Ladycats drop to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the National.
Blanchester led 7-0 but the East Clinton defense clamped down and brought the Astros back to a 9-9 first quarter tie.
“Both teams came out flat and we had an opportunity to put the game in our hands early after jumping out 7-0 but little mistakes, 13 turnovers in the first quarter and missed open shots are a recipe for disaster and that’s how you let a team right back in it,” BHS coach Bradon Pyle lamented in his post-game comments.
Pyle said the Ladycats put together a few scoring runs in the second half but East Clinton never allowed BHS to get “all that close” with timely shooting.
Blan’s Elecia Patton was the top scorer, hitting for 21 points. She made seven of eight free throws.
Mackenzie Campbell led East Clinton with 15 while Lacey Peterman tossed in 12. Peterman had eight points in the third quarter.
Cambell made two of three free throws in the fourth and Gracie Boggs hit on three of four at the stripe as EC kept BHS at a safe distance.
