Peters first, ‘Cats second at Madeira

MADEIRA – James Peters finished first and Blanchester placed second as a team Saturday in the Madeira Invitational wrestling tournament.

Peters went 3-0 in the tournament, posting pins in 1:03, 1:24 and 5:54 in the 220-pound championship match.

Point Pleasant won the tournament with 320.5 points while Blanchester was second with 209 points.

Rounding out the field Indian Hill 180, Bethel-Tate 152, Batavia 74.5, Madeira 74, Reading 73.5, McNicholas 64, Norwood 62, Covington Catholic 61, Deer Park 60, Mt. Healthy 58.5, Goshen 53.5, Clermont Northeastern 50, Taylor 45, Boone County (Ky.) 26, Hillcrest 10, Mariemont 7, Withrow 7, Summit Country Day 6 Madeira B 0.

In all, Blanchester had eight top four finishers.

Clayton Schirmer at 152 pounds was runnerup to Zac Samson of Point Pleasant, who posted a 4-2 win in the title match.

Colt Conover also was second, falling to Logan Southall of Point Pleasant in 1:34 in the 160-pound championship match.

Andrew Frump at 132 pounds finished third, recording a 13-2 major decision in the third-place match; Johnny Schirmer at 138 pounds was fourth, losing a wild 16-12 match in the consolation final; Gage Huston at 145 pounds also was fourth, dropping a 7-3 decision in the consolation final; Steven Latchford at 182 was third following a 6-3 consolation final win; Christian Stubbs at 195 pounds placed fourth, falling in 4:13 in the consolation final.

Jacob Hamm at 106 pounds, Levi St. John at 113 pounds, Adam Frump at 120 pounds and Zane Panetta at 170 all lost in the consolation semifinal round.
