BEXLEY – The Wilmington College women’s basketball could not overcome a slow start in a 74-53 loss at Capital University in Ohio Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.

Wilmington dips to 11-13 overall and 6-11 in OAC play. The Quakers close out the regular season hosting John Carroll University for Senior Day Saturday.

The Crusaders, who were looking to avenge a loss in Hermann Court earlier this season, jumped out to a 16-5 lead seven minutes into the game. Capital would lead by as many as a dozen in the first quarter until a Hannah Binkley layup at buzzer cut the deficit to 22-12.

The hosts opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to open up a 21-point lead. The visitors would get within 16 as a Mackenzie Campbell layup at the end of the half made the score 44-28 at the break.

Wilmington was no closer than 14 points in the second half.

Capital finished 29-of-50 (58.0 percent) from the field while holding Wilmington to a season-low 29.6 percent (21-of-71). Neither team shot well from distance while the Quakers won the rebounding battle 38-32.

Individually, Campbell led Wilmington with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Kennedy Lewis was held to four points, but grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists.

Carlie Hulette led Capital with 17 points off the bench on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Regan Stonerock added 16 points for the Crusaders.
