HIRAM – The Wilmington College women’s swimming team posted the fastest time in 11 of 16 events, and claimed the 140-105 win over Hiram Saturday.

Senior Rachel Drake (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield), junior Elyse Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame), junior Kathryn Spitznogle (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) and sophomore Samantha Glish (Louisville, OH/Ballard) all won individual events, and teamed to claim the 200 medley relay (2:20.21).

Spraul won the 100 butterfly (1:17.84), Spitznogle the 50 backstroke (35.79), Drake the 50 breaststroke (39.75) and Glish the 50 freestyle (29.88).

“We had some different races today,” said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. “It’s a change of pace which freshened things up.

“I knew we were tired going in, but still stepped up and raced well. We have a three-day conference meet and we need to perform with fatigue.”

Sophomore Anna Belokur (Towanda, PA/Towanda) added to Wilmington’s win total with a victory in the 100 freestyle (1:08.57), while senior Lydia Wolcott (Miamisburg, OH/Bishop Fenwick) won the 100 backstroke (1:22.21) and junior Haley Rowland (Fairborn, OH/Xenia Christian) was victorious in the 400 freestyle (5:27.93).

Senior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) turned in the fastest time in the 200 individual medley (2:49.94). The quartet of senior Colleen Rueppel (Middlebury, VT/Manheim (PA)), Glish, Routzong and Belokur had the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay (2:06.23).

Wilmington travels to Delaware, OH for the two-day Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
