WILMINGTON — The summer’s first Party at the Mural will be held Friday evening, June 19 starting at 6 p.m. at the mural parking lot on Main Street next to The General Denver.
Barbecue sandwiches will be available to purchase from Beaugard’s Barbecue, while grilled hot dogs and hamburgers from Carlos Roberts will also be for sale. Drinks for sale include beer, soft drinks and water.
These annual Third Friday events are sponsored by Main Street Wilmington, and are part of the organization’s #DestinationDubTown campaign.
Admission to the party is free. The fun will include live entertainment by the blues band, Seventh Son, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Seventh Son is fronted by local musician and vocalist George Tilton.
There also will be a classic car cruise-in.
Some downtown businesses on these summertime third Fridays will stay open late for shopping and dining.
The next mural party in the Third Friday summer series will be held on Friday, July 17. The band to perform that night will be Rewind, comprised of locals Dan Mongold, Paul Shivers, Bill Jenkins, Joe Spicer and Bill Spicer. They play favorites from the 1950s and ’60s.
A cruise-in is scheduled for the July event, according to the Main Street Wilmington website.
In August, there will be two Parties at the Mural. The first one will be on Friday, Aug. 14 when the beer, band and food will be accompanied by a Jeep Jam where Jeep owners show off their vehicles, said Party at the Mural Event Chairman Trevor Shoemaker.
The second August mural party will be held on the third Friday, Aug. 21. It will feature the band, Streetwise.
Its website describes them as: “A veteran band in town — a veteran source of dynamite entertainment. Streetwise was formed by musicians who have many years of experience entertaining audiences throughout the area. Our music ranges from the ’60s through the ’90s, presented in an exciting audio/visual style.”
Then, to cap off the summer series, a “College Night” mural party will be held Friday, Sept. 18 with the same format of a band, food and beer. Residents not attending Wilmington College are welcome at the event, Shoemaker said.
Main Street Wilmington is a non-profit organization whose mission is to cultivate downtown Wilmington as a center of interest for commerce, culture, social activities and entertainment, according to a news release.
