The 106th Alumni Reunion of Kingman High School was held June 20 at the Senior Citizens Center on North Nelson Road. Rev. John Beers gave the invocation and President Judy Hyden Schnatz welcomed 88 Kingman Alumni and their guests, who enjoyed dinner served by center staff.
After dinner a short business meeting was held. Virginia Fleming Shoemaker, Secretary/Treasurer read the minutes from June 14, 2014, and they were approved.
Nomination/election of the 2016 KHS Alumni Committee was announced: Charlie Weaver, President; Jim Borton, Vice President; Jane Inwood Carmean and Jane Fehl Bogan Buckshorn, Secretary/Treasurer; Jim Hackney, Kingman School Historian; Carol Sue Jones Tharpe, Assistant Historian; and committee members Linda Ellis Andy, Richard Lane, Sheryl Hopkins Link, Charles McIntire and Judy Hyden Schnatz.
A memorial service was held for all those Kingman Alumni who has passed in the last year. A table of candles and mirrors were set to commemorate each person. Judy Schantz read the names as Mary Jane Haines Fulton lit a candle for each person: Homer Lundy, 1940; William Lawson, 1942; Beverly Blackburn Sallee, 1951; Albert Hackney, 1953; Linda Hopkins Sparks, 1955; Bertha Carter Locklear, 1956; Judy George Suttles, 1957; Brenda Blackburn Fite, 1958; David Hurley, 1961; Barbara Mullins Daly, 1962; Dale Jones, 1964; Charlotte Hope Weaver Cooper, 1966. A moment of silence was held to remember.
Jim Hackney thanked everyone that he had contacted this year in an effort to update biographies. He and Carol Sue Jones Tharpe have worked tirelessly to put in booklet form the bios of the Kingman High School Alumni.
Those who responded for the honored classes were: 1915, Rosalee McKay Beers; 1925, Margaret Thompson Barns; 1935, Helen Brown Eakins; 1945, Jeannette McKay Musser; 1955, Libby Haines Curry; and 1965, Larry Shanholtz. Relatives of those mentioned in the classes were ask to stand for recognition. Many generations of families have attended Kingman School.
President Judy Hyden Schnatz made a few announcements and comments as the evening came to a close. She thanked the Waring Office Supply for all the programs and placemats, the Senior Citizens Center for the room and serving, also to Larry Shanholtz who had taken blackboards from Kingman High School and cut them in pieces, sanded and washed for those who wanted a piece of history. Judy and all the attendees thanked the generous donor or donors who made possible the placement of a monument on the site of the new demolished Kingman High School (1909-1963).
It was proposed and voted on that the 107th Kingman High School Alumni will be held on June 25, 2016, at the Senior Citizens Center.
