Alumni Field’s new turf is coming along nicely, based on Friday’s viewing.
The Motz Group has put down the 100-yard playing field in a dark green turf and the two 10-yard black turf end zones.
There still needs to be the block W at midfield as well as verbage in the end zones to complete the football portion of the playing surface.
Soccer and lacrosse markings also need to be put in place.
A trio of athletes well-known to Clinton countians are in the news.
Marie Matrka, a 2001 graduate of Wilmington High School, is in the midst of the 2015 Thomas E. Price Cincinnati Metropolitan Tennis Tournament.
Matrka, a 2014 inductee into the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame, is the defending women’s singles champion.
This past Sunday, Matrka won her 11th overall Met title when she teamed with Kaitlyn Zinn to win the women’s doubles championship on Sunday. It was Matrka’s fourth women’s doubles title.
In the singles division, Matrka and Zinn were scheduled to face each other in the semifinals Friday with the championship match set for a 10 a.m. Saturday first serve. All matches are at the Lindner Tennis Center at Lunken Field.
Jarron Cumberland, the Wilmington High School senior, is playing for the USA Midwest team in the Nike Global Challenge at Whitney Young High School in Chicago.
Cumberland, who recently committed to the University of Cincinnati, had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals in USA Midwest’s 100-85 win over Canada. He then tallied 15 points against the Dominican Republic squad Thursday.
Cumberland and his USA Midwest teammates were scheduled to face the USA West team for the right to play in the NGC championship game 11 a.m. Saturday. Both teams are 2-0 in the four-team pool.
The Pool B squads are China, Pan Africa, USA East and USA South. USA East and USA South are scheduled to square off late Friday, with the winner likely to represent Pool B in the title game.
The consolation game is set for 9 a.m. Saturday.
Chayse Wolf, the 2015 Clinton-Massie graduate who was involved in an all-terrain vehicle crash this past Sunday, is out of the Intensive Care Unit at the West Virginia hospital and is scheduled to move on to the Shephard Center in Atlanta, Ga. for therapy.
“We struggled with whether to keep him close so he could have the support of everyone here but ultimately decided to get him into one of the best institutions in the country,” said Chayse’s mother EmmaLee Wolf on her Facebook page. “We wish we could begin to express how much all of your love and support means to us.”
EmmaLee said she has “no doubt” Chayse will walk again. Chayse had underwent two spinal surgeries following the crash.
Wolf, a standout on both of Clinton-Massie’s state championship football teams, has signed to play football with Lindsey Wilson College, an NAIA school in Columbia, Ky.
