Young Lady ’Cane golfers lose twice

The Wilmington High School girls golf team has dropped a pair of matches this week to McClain and Indian Hill.

“We are a very young and inexperienced team this year and every match all I can ask and expect of them is to improve on the last match and better themselves,” said WHS coach Timothy Hill. “Wins will come. The girls just have to keep at it and trust the process.”

Wilmington is 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the South Central Ohio League.

On Monday WHS lost 245-250 to McClain with sophomore Heather Fryman firing a 47 to earn match medalist honors.

“I’ve been very happy with Heather’s leadership this year for the team,” said Hill. “Being only a sophomore, it was a lot of me to ask of her to be the leader of the team but as the only returning player we had from last season I knew the girls would naturally look to her for guidance and she’s done all I could hope in fulfilling that role.”

Wednesday the Lady ’Cane traveled to Eagles Nest Golf Club to face Indian Hill, losing 186-256.

“Indian Hill is easily the best team we have on the schedule this year,” said Hill. “They have a team that can definitely make a run at the state tournament and I scheduled them this season because it was a good experience for my girls to get to see a team of their talent and how they handle themselves around the golf course.”
