JAMESTOWN – Outside of two plays, Greeneview largely held East Clinton in check, rumbling to a 28-13 win on rainy Friday night.
The Rams victory came in large part thanks to its methodical running attack and the efforts of quarterback Collin Matt and running back Logan Test, who split the game’s scoring at two rushing touchdowns apiece.
The Astros struggled to move the ball in the first half and went into the locker room facing a 14-0 deficit, having gained just 23 total yards. Despite their struggles, the Astros weren’t out of things for long once the action resumed in the second half.
After the Rams shanked a punt, the Astros benefited from great field position and scored off a 26-yard, fourth-down conversion pass from quarterback Erik Moore to receiver Brian Barnes. Game on.
The Rams responded with a kickoff return from lineman Tommy Smith and popped into the end zone on a Matt touchdown 11 plays later to restore the two-score lead.
Greeneview would score again on another Matt touchdown on its next drive to stretch the lead to 28-7.
East Clinton threatened to make things interesting late on a 70-yard catch-and-run by J.T. McCarren, but that was as far as the Astros would make it in their comeback efforts on the evening.
Matt finished the night with the two touchdowns and 165 yards rushing.
