WC men 2nd at Heidelberg Inv.

TIFFIN – The Wilmington College men’s cross country team finished second in the five-team Heidelberg Cross Country Invitational Friday night.

“I thought the guys ran a good race,” said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. “We told the guys to go out in 5:20 and they did. We just couldn’t make up any ground in a shorter race like the 5K. We are making good progress from week to week. I’m happy that we aren’t racing for two weeks now. It gives us a chance to get healthy and get two more quality weeks of training under our belt.”

For the second consecutive meet, sophomore Griffin Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) led the Fightin’ Quakers to the line. Stith placed tenth overall, finishing the 5K in 17:02.0. Twin brother, Hunter Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) placed 11th with the time of 17:04.3. Freshman Rick Pride (Mount Orab, OH/Western Brown) was the next WC player to finish, placing 13th (17:19.0).

The final two scoring runners were senior Dominic King (Bettsville, OH/Bettsville), who was 14th with a time of 17:51.0, and freshman Matt Baker (Liberty Center, OH/Liberty Center), who was 15th with a time of 17:56.7.

Wilmington now has a couple weeks before returning to action on Sept. 26 at the Dickinson Invitational.
