CINCINNATI — Blanchester has a finalist in the second singles bracket and the second doubles bracket in the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association Coaches Classic tennis tournament.
The Ladycats are competing in the G Flight of the tournament.
“As a team, we’ve still got a shot to win this thing if we can win some of those key back draw matches,” said Sexton.
Sarah Ujlakyová moved into the second singles championship match with a win over Hughes of Finneytown and Boehmer of Deer Park, 6-1, 6-1.
She will meet Wanek of Taylor in the title match.
“Sarah was outstanding in her two matches,” said Sexton. “With every match, you can see her tennis game coming back and her getting more confident.”
Erin Wilson and Lilly Tedrick breezed by Wilson and Griggs of Little Miami 6-2, 6-1 in their first match then knocked off Coombs and Leisure of Taylor 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinal round.
“Erin and Lilly are really playing good tennis right now,” Sexton said. “They are to the point where they think on the court and make adjustments to what their opponents are doing. That is impressive for sophomores.”
They will face Lawson and Deuer of Goshen in the championship match.
Brooke Honaker was defeated in her first singles match 7-5, 4-6, 8-10. Makayla Sturgill was defeated in her first match in the third singles bracket 3-6, 6-2, 9-11.
In the first doubles bracket, Emily Speakman and Heather O’Neill won their first match 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 over Briggs and Thompson of Roger Bacon. They will face Ly and Vidourek of Deer Park in the back draw semifinals.
“Emily and Heather played a terrific semifinal against Little Miami,” the BHS coach noted. “That was high-quality tennis. It came down to one or two shots. They played extremely well. Brooke and Makayla also played well in tough opening round match tiebreak losses.”
