LEESBURG – Led by Bekah Sams, the Blanchester girls soccer team defeated Fairfield 7-1 Monday in a non-league match on the FHS pitch.

Sams recorded her second career hat trick with three goals into the Lions’ net.

It was Taylor McQuitty, though, who put BHS on the board less than two minutes into the match.

McQuitty then assisted on Sams’ header just a few minutes later and Blanchester (6-2-1 on the year) was off and running, 2-0.

Emily Hinkle assisted on Sams’ next goal then Audrey Jordan and Chloe Caplinger tallied goals to make it 5-0 at the half.

Sams completed her hat trick with an “unstoppable rocket from 25 yards out that ended in the upper right corner of the net,” BHS coach Kurt Ballinger said. Sams has nine goals for the year.

Caplinger rounded out the scoring with her second goal of the game.

Hinkle finished with three assists while Merri Lindsey, Emma Gundler, Jordan and McQuitty had one assist each.

Regan Ostermeier had seven saves in net for Blanchester in the first half and Sabrina Duncan recorded five saves in the second half.

Cassidy Todd, a BHS midfielder, had a “quality” game, Ballinger said.
