WHS outlasts Hillsboro 3-2

Wilmington knocked off Hillsboro 3-2 Tuesday night in a South Central Ohio League match on the turf at Alumni Field.

With the win, Wilmington improves to 6-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the SCOL.

“Our boys played their hearts out for the win,” Hurricane head coach Imad El-Macharrafie said.

Wilmington and Hillsboro tied in the first meeting this season in Highland County.

El-Macharrafie said both teams were strong offensively, but WHS goalkeeper Kaden Laufer and the defense in front of him led the Hurricane to the win.

“Kaden came up big for us with his saves while the rest of the team battle on defense and offense for the whole game,” El-Macharrafie said.

Sam Spirk had two goals and an assist. Charlie Schumacher had a goal. Seth Gundlach and Avery Greenlees also were credited with assists for WHS.

“Our team is very young and watching them battle the way they did until the very end shows we are capable of being a top tier team this year and years to come,” said El-Macharrafie. “The future looks bright for the orange and black Hurricane soccer program.”
