For the third straight week, the Blanchester Wildcats had a victory close at hand.
Yet, for the third straight week, the Wildcats came up short. Western Brown defeated Blanchester 35-21 last week.
This week, the Wildcats travel to Clermont County to face the Div. II Amelia Barons.
“We need to get a win this week,” said BHS head coach Jack O’Rourke. “Losing the last three games late in the game is hard on a team.”
Kickoff at AHS is set for 7 p.m.
Amelia is off to a 1-3 start, with the lone win coming over Clermont Northeastern, 47-14, in Week 2. The Rockets are 0-4.
But the other three teams the Barons have lost to are a combined 9-2. Glen Este is 4-0 while Williamsburg is 3-1 and Bethel-Tate is 2-1.
Amelia has been outscored 87 to 159 this season.
“Amelia has two good running backs and a quarterback who throws and runs well,” said O’Rourke. “They run multiple defensive fronts which can cause confusion in blocking assignments.”
Despite coming up short last week to the Broncos, O’Rourke is upbeat heading into Friday’s non-league battle.
“I am confident that we are going to fix our problems,” he said. “Our kids played hard last week. I was very proud of their effort but I wasn’t happy with the penalties late in the game.”
