Clinton County voter registration deadline Monday

WILMINGTON — Monday is the last day people can register to vote in the Nov. 3 general election.

The Clinton County Board of Elections, located at the Clinton County Courthouse in downtown Wilmington, will be open until 9 p.m. Monday to give people the opportunity to register, according to its director, Shane Breckel.

Residents don’t need to bring any documents to register to vote, but will have to provide their Ohio driver’s license or Social Security number on registration forms in order to register.

Early in-person and absentee voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 6, Breckel said.

To vote in-person, a voter must go to the board of elections’ office during office hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early in-person voters must provide either their Ohio driver’s license number or their Social Security number on the in-person ballot application.

Early voting ends Monday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

To vote by absentee mail, a citizen must submit an application to vote by absentee mail by noon on Saturday, Oct. 31. Filled-in absentee ballots must be mailed back to the board of elections and post-marked by Monday, Nov. 2 in order to be counted.

Absentee ballots can be returned in-person until 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the board of elections office, not polling locations.

If you want to vote at the polls, be prepared to present an acceptable form of voter identification, which may include a driver’s license, military I.D. or other state or federal-issued photo I.D. as well as other proofs of identity.

Voters in the Chester A & B precincts will vote in a different polling location.

Those voters will use the Chester Township Fire Station, 5580 State Route 380, and will not use Faith Family Church as they did previously. The board of elections mailed those voters weeks ago to notify them of the change.

Forms of I.D. that can be used to prove your identity at the polls include:

  • Unexpired Ohio driver’s license or state identification card with current or former address if the voter’s present address is in the list of registered voters for that precinct.
  • Military identification.
  • Unexpired photo identification issued by the United States government or the State of Ohio, that contains the voter’s name and current address.
  • Current utility bill with the voter’s name and present address.
  • Current bank statement with the voter’s name and present address.
  • Current government check with the voter’s name and present address.
  • Current paycheck with the voter’s name and present address.
  • Current other government document, other than a notice of voter registration mailed by a board of elections, that shows the voter’s name and present address.
