ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Wilmington and Clinton-Massie are close in the South Central Ohio League girls soccer standings.

And Tuesday night at Frank Irelan Field, the two league powers were close on the scoreboard, playing to a 2-2 tie.

“We always know it’s going to be a dogfight when we play Massie,” said WHS coach Kerry Lewis. “They’re great competitors and we have an excellent rivalry.”

In the league standings, Chillicothe remains atop the loop at 8-0. Wilmington is next at 6-2-1 then Massie at 6-2-2. Hillsboro is fourth with a 4-2-1 league record.

Clinton-Massie plays Chillicothe Thursday while Wilmington still plays the Lady Cavaliers next week. Chillicothe and Hillsboro still have two games against each other on the schedule.

So it’s still anybody’s title.

Mikhayla Carter gave the Lady Falcons a 1-0 lead by scoring in the 8th minute. Savannah Morgan tied the match at 1-1 with Drezden Beam recording the assist late in the first half.

Clinton-Massie took a 2-1 lead on Courtney Dearing’s goal but the Lady Hurricane responded. Alyssa Lewis scored on a header off Beam’s corner kick in the 66th minute.

“CM controlled possession during most the first half,” Lewis said. “We played much better in the second half. We made some adjustments at halftime and the girls responded well. We were very pleased with the effort of our girls, especially playing from behind. Our girls never quite. They showed a lot of resolve.”
