EBER — With Johanna Theetge and Miquela Santoro both going 4-for-4 in the fourth quarter, the Clinton-Massie girls basketball team went on the road and defeated Miami Trace 44-33 in South Central Ohio League action.

The Lady Falcons improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the SCOL.

Santoro finished with a game-high 28 points. After a slow start with just 2 points in the first quarter, the senior guard exploded for 12 in the second and then finished with 8 in the fourth.

Theetge had 6 points, all coming at the free throw line.

As a team, the Lady Falcons were 16 for 17 at the line, including 10 of 11 in the final quarter.

Neither team found the basket with any success early. Trace held a 3-2 first quarter lead as the teams combined for 2 of 27 shooting from the floor.

“I think our emotions were getting the best of us in the beginning,” said CM coach Carlos Roberts. “The nerves and everything, mine included.”

The Lady Falcons found their groove on offense, scoring 14 points in each of the next 3 quarters with Santoro netting 26 of the 42.

“Once they settled down, both teams, things (normalized) and they began playing,” Roberts said. “(Tanner) Bryant not scoring much hurt them. Santoro has a tendency to do that to people.”

The Miami Trace sophomore was held to three points in the game.

“There’s one person that she (Santoro) cannot stop,” Roberts said with a smile. “And that’s me in practice. Other than that, she’s pretty good.”
