Police arrest man charged with assault

WILMINGTON — Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt said late Thursday morning Micah Waits was arrested by a Blanchester officer when Waits appeared at the Clinton County Municipal Court for a meeting with his parole officer. He was taken to the Clinton County Jail, where he is currently being held in lieu of posting a bond.

Waits, 34, had been a fugitive since Monday evening when he allegedly assaulted a man on Bourbon Street in Blanchester, then fled, according to Reinbolt. He is charged with Assault and Criminal Damaging, both misdemeanor offenses. Both cases will be heard in the Municipal Court.

I-71/Jeremiah Morrow bridge lane closures

WARREN COUNTY — Bridge work requires closing the right lane of northbound I-71 at the Jeremiah Morrow bridge from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4 and from 7 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 7. Traffic will be maintained but delays may be lengthy.

Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place prior to the work zone to alert motorists of the upcoming lane closure. To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.

Phone scammers purport to be chamber

The Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce reports they have received notice that an out-of-town company, acting as the local chamber, is currently making telephone calls to local businesses asking for in-depth business and personal information (and hanging up when probed for more information on their end). At least one of the numbers if coming from 1-740-401-7057.

These calls are not credible and are not associated with the local chamber. The chamber advises you not to disclose any business or personal information.

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington News Journal’s annual Pictures with Santa will be held 3-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at the newspaper offices at 761 S. Nelson Ave.

Come see Santa and his helpers, and there will be other activities for the kids as well including, from 3-5 p.m., a fire engine and EMS helicopter (weather permitting).
