CLARKSVILLE — Clinton-Massie High School’s band director recently found herself in high demand when 50 first-time band students enrolled in band class.

Knowing Mrs. Christin McClain was the only band director and that the future of the CMLS band hung in the balance, current members of the eighth grade and high school bands stepped up and volunteered their time to work as assistants and tutors to help with a variety of new instruments and music skill levels.

Originally scheduled for study halls, students realigned their schedules and made the commitment to complete their studies outside the school day so they would be available to work with the new band students.

“I’m am impressed by the students’ hard work and assistance,” said McClain. “It’s rewarding to see CM’s musicians paying it forward.”

McClain, who began teaching in the Clinton-Massie district in the fall of 2004, holds a Bachelor of Music from Capital University, and has worked diligently over the last several years to build the instrumental music program throughout the district.
