WILMINGTON – Wilmington dominated East Clinton every way imaginable in an 89-36 South Central Ohio League victory Friday at Fred Summers Court.
Jarron Cumberland poured in 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, snatched nine rebounds, dished out six assists, grabbed seven steals and had two blocks in just 21 minutes of play. He had 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and four steals by the intermission to help the Hurricane (14-0, 10-0) build a 57-10 lead.
Cameron Stewart added 17 points, six assists and three steals for the Hurricane, ranked fifth in the latest Ohio Division I Associated Press boys basketball poll.
Dylan Beaguard also reached double figures for the Hurricane with 11 points. He also had five steals and three assists.
The Hurricane will now face third-ranked Cincinnati Moeller Saturday night at MHS. Moeller ended Wilmington’s run last season with a 46-43 win in a Div. I Dayton District championship game.
The game Saturday is being televised on Time Warner Cable digital channel 311 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Wilmington outscored East Clinton 56-16 in points in the paint, 36-4 off turnovers and 22-2 on fast-break points. In the first half, those margins were 34-6 (points in paint), 28-2 (points off turnovers) and 20-0 (fast-break points), respectively.
In the first half, Wilmington also connected on 77.4 percent of its field-goal attempts. The Cane finished at 58.7 percent for the game.
In addition to holding EC to just 10 first-half points, the Hurricane defense forced 17 first-half turnovers.
Wyatt Floyd led the Astros (4-12, 0-10) with 13 points, two steals and two assists. All but two of his points came in the second half.
