Author, actor and former college and professional football star Ryan Sloth visited Clinton-Massie Elementary School and Wilmington’s East End and Holmes elementaries recently, sharing his books and stories from his career.
Sloth, a native of Iowa, played football for Iowa State University, later played arena football for the Iowa Barnstormers and the Bakersfield Blitz, and then served as the assistant coach for the Iowa Barnstormers. He’s also appeared in the movies We Are Marshall, Leatherheads, Touchback and Spiderman.
Sloth visited with students throughout the day, showing some of his football memorabilia and telling about some of his career highlights. He also engaged students in the reading of his most recent children’s book, Hank the Bully.
Students volunteered to help Coach Sloth by acting out the story of Hank Honey Badger, a big, mean bully that picks on his classmates, and in one week, loses all of his friends, gets in big trouble at school, and learns that being a bully is not cool.
