Mackenzie Campbell had 21 points to lead Wilmington to a 71-63 Ohio Athletic Conference win Wednesday over Muskingum at the Muskingum Recreation Center.

The win puts the Lady Quakers are 9-15 overall and 6-11 in league play. Muskingum falls to 5-19, 1-16.

The victory leaves Wilmington tied with Marietta for the final spot of the eight-team Ohio Athletic Conference tournament. Wilmington holds the tiebreaker via its win over Capital if the two teams finished tied. The Fightin’ Quakers host Mount Union, while the Pioneers hosts No. 10 Ohio Northern Saturday.

Campbell led Wilmington in points, rebounds (9), assists (3) and steals (2). She had a near-perfect shooting night, hitting 8 of 9 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the free throw line.

Overall, the Quakers made 52 percent from the floor and 12 of 14 from the line.

Mary Moyer had 16 points and tied Campbell with nine rebounds and three assists. Brittaney Jefferson, who had 15 points in the game, also had three assists.

“We had other players make big contributions,” said WC head coach Jerry Scheve. “Meranda Wilson played as solid a game as she has in her career, and her defense in the second half was a big key for us. Emily Smith was great in the post and played important minutes for us.”

Wilmington had 30 points in the paint. Neither team played at a fast-pace with just one fastbreak basket scored by WC.

The two teams traded leads throughout the first half but the Muskies held a 37-33 advantage at the midpoint.

Out of the lockerroom, Muskingum had the better of the play. Scoring five straight points, the Muskies took a nine-point lead, 42-33.

But Campbell began the WC comeback with a layup. She made two more close shots in the third period and her next one at the 6:36 mark of the fourth period tied the game at 52-52. The teams were still tied at 61-61 with 2:51 to go in the fourth.

Moyer hit a jumper to give the Quakers a lead they would not relinquish. Campbell’s basket made it 65-61 with 63 seconds to play then WC made a steady procession to the free throw line.

First Jefferson, then Moyer and Campbell hit two for two at the line as Wilmington steadily pulled away for the win.
