Homemakers hear from Board of DD, Whalen, Beam

Fall kicks off the start of the Clinton County Homemaker and Nursing Guild clubs.

There are three clubs — the Wilson Homemakers in Sabina, the Evergreen Homemakers in New Vienna, and the Modern Homemakers in Wilmington. These clubs have begun their September meetings after the summer break.

The CC Homemaker and Nursing Guild hosted the Ohio Homemakers and Community Education (OHCE) SW County Regional fall meeting on September 27, with five area counties represented by attendees. SW District Director Susan Corbett conducted the meeting for OHCE.

The clubs are part of the OHCE organization.

The morning speaker was Pamela Stephens, Educational Service Administrator with the CC Board of DD. She spoke about its “Help Me Grow” program, and their first 2- to 7-year-old “Special Olympics” event. The Homemakers help supply the refreshments.

At lunch, Clinton County Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Deanne Whalen gave a brief update on the club’s spring award donations of hygiene bags. They were much appreciated.

The afternoon presentation was by local author Abbie Beam who penned the Orange Frazer book about the Wilmington Police Department canine officer Karson, and the book’s photographer, Pam Jones.

It was wonderful to learn the details about our Wilmington police team and the rescue of our K-9 officer.

Susan Corbett wrapped up the meeting, with details that the next meeting will be April 25, 2017 in Greene County.

The CC Homemakers’ next planned events include the upcoming Oct. 10 Fall Heritage Craft Day at the Clinton County Annex Building’s community room, pre-registration requested, the Nov. 15 holiday party program, and the “Help Me Grow” project in December.

We continue to support four nursing homes in Clinton County with monthly birthday gifts and a Christmas gift to each resident.

We sponsor a scholarship to a 4-H member at the fair and work with the blood bank drive once a year.

All events are open to the public. If you are interested in attending or joining a club, please call 937-987-2758.
