SPRINGFIELD — The Wilmington College women’s swim team dropped a pair of matches Saturday to Wittenberg 204-68 and Transylvania 170-84.

Not only was this meet their first non-OAC meet of the season, but it also was the first one of the season that featured a “long” line-up, consisting of 200s of each stroke, in addition to the normal events.

Freshman Hannah Houston, a Wilmington High School graduate, finished first in the 100 yard backstroke field with a time of 1:05.56, her only individual event of the day.

Houston teamed up with freshman Alyssa Rogers, senior Elyse Spraul and junior Samantha Glish to form a second place 200 yard medley relay (1:58.89).

Houston also teamed up with Rogers, senior Haley Rowland and Glish for the 200 yard freestyle relay. This team came in second in their respective field (1:47.16).

Glish finished first for the Fightin’ Quakers in the 50 yard freestyle (26.06). She also competed individually in the 100 yard freestyle where she came in fourth (1:01.35).

Rowland dropped time yet again in the 1000 yard freestyle, clocking in with 12:40.02 for fifth place, nearly six seconds faster than last week. She also competed in the 500 yard freestyle for the Fightin’ Quakers, finishing sixth in the field with a time of 6:08.49, just over two seconds faster than last week’s swim.

“I was impressed with Haley [Rowland]’s swims today,” WC head coach Tripp Breen said. “She’s showing the senior leadership we need. She’s working hard, and that hard work is paying off. She always swims the distance events for us and she steps up, unafraid, week after week. She made a technical correction going from the 1000 to the 500, and I think her 500 was her best swim of the season.”

The Fighin’ Quakers dive back into their home pool 1 p.m. Saturday in a non-OAC dual meet against Hiram College.
