WPD reports: Man tries, fails to beat drug test

WILMINGTON — This past week the Wilmington Police Department arrested 25 people for various crimes.

Some of the more noteworthy arrests include Rachel Long, 35, of Wilmington for alleged domestic violence; Brandon Fall, 18, of Wilmington was arrested for alleged trespassing and obstruction after officers were called to the old Save-a-Lot store for a report of a possible breaking and entering; and Gary Davis, 57, of Wilmington was arrested for alleged criminal damaging.

One of the more unusual arrests we have had in a while was for tampering with evidence. Joseph Quigley, 34, of New Vienna showed up to probation for a drug screen and allegedly used a strap-on urinating device filled with artificial urine — a device designed to beat drug tests — in an attempt to evade a possible probation violation.

The total calls for service ended up for the week at 313, with the bulk of our calls in the assist-citizen category. These types of calls involve unlocking cars, helping disabled motorists, and civil-related issues.

We had six theft reports during the week. One of these was a theft from a car near the college. The others consisted of thefts of personal property by someone they know.

We had one burglary reported during the week and it was around the Jodie Lane area, where video gaming-type items were stolen.

‘Tis the season

This is the time of year where scams start picking up, and we have had one report of a check scam going around. If you receive a check in the mail and they ask you to cash it and send them a check in return, realize this is scam.

Next we officially kick off the holiday season. Rombach Avenue will be congested with everyone starting to shop and enjoying lunch. Crashes can and do happen, so stay focused as you drive and pay attention to all intersections.
