Clinton Co. eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently:

• Denver Elementary School, 291 Lorish Ave., Wilmington, Nov. 15. The Continental freezer has large accumulation of ice on bottom of freezer, on shelves and on box of frozen strawberries. All equipment shall be maintained in good working order. There is no covered waste receptacle in the employee bathroom. All restrooms that are used by female employees must be provided with covered receptacle for sanitary products. Note: If back door is to be left open to help regulate temperature of kitchen, then screen door must be installed to reduce insect/rodent entry.

• Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation, 75 Hale St., Wilmington, Nov. 15. Follow-up. Procedure for cleaning up vomiting/diarrhea posted. Thank you!. (4.5) Corrected. Thank you. The wall behind the ice machine in kitchen area is dirty. The ceiling above dry storage/can storage may have possible water damage (area is bubbled). (2nd notice.) In the kitchenette the cove molding is missing along the wall. (2nd notice). All parts of the facility must be maintained in good order. All floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and easily cleanable. Note: maintenance working on door of kitchen, replacing molding and cove molding while I was there.

• East End Elementary School, 769 Rombach Ave., Wilmington. Nov. 15. All temperatures were very good. Thank you! Note: there is a chart on the milk cooler for the delivery person to write down the temperature of the milk when it is delivered. (Staff is not at the facility when milk is delivered.) The last date recorded is 9/14/16. This temperature needs to be recorded for every delivery to ensure milk is being received at proper temperatures. Dented cans should not be used. return for credit or discard.

• Damon’s, 1045 Eastside Drive, Wilmington, Nov. 16. There was a hole in the wall of entrance of kitchen. Some of the walls (behind salad prep cooler and hot sauces) are discolored and ripped spot. All floors, walls and ceilings must be maintained in good repair and smooth and easily cleanable. PIC stated in process of replacing wall boards.

• Holmes Elementary School, 1350 W. Truesdell St., Wilmington, Nov. 16. There is ice accumulation of the floor and ceiling of the walk-in freezer. All equipment must be maintained in good working order. Note: Sheet is provided for kitchen staff to check temperatures of milk and is currently up to date. Sheet must be maintained by milk delivery person to ensure milk is being delivered at proper temperatures.

• Mediterranean Restaurant, 53 E. Main St., Wilmington, Nov. 17. Critical: Observed employee take food out of deep fryer and touch with hands. Employee was not wearing gloves. All employees must use gloves when working with ready-to-eat foods to prevent hand to mouth contamination.

There was a bowl stored in the container of flour. All scoops must have handles and be stored with the handle out of the food product. In the dry storage area in the basement, there is a hole in the ceiling (plaster and wooden board) around plumbing by the door. The corner area of the dry storage on landing — there is peeling paint and appears there may be a water leak? There is a ceiling tile in the kitchen that is coming out over the top of the 3-compartment sink. There are towels on the floor by the dishwasher and the 3-compartment sink. All facilities/parts of the food service must be maintained in good working order. All floor, walls and ceilings must be maintained smooth and easily cleanable.

• General Denver, 81 W. Main St., Wilmington, Nov. 17. Everything looks good. Thank you!

• Blanchester Middle School, 955 Cherry St., Blanchester, Nov. 17. Everything looks good! No issues. Thank you!

• United Dairy Farmers, 395 E. Main St., Wilmington, Nov. 21. Critical: The milk in the “specialty” coffee cooler was at 44°F and the whipped cream was at 55°F. All TCS foods must be kept cold at 41°F or below to help reduce bacterial growth. PIC removed and discarded items. Thank you! The front seal on the slushie machine had a black growth/buildup on it and the ice chute on the soda fountain had a pink growth/residue on it. All food contact surfaces must be maintained clean and free from growth/residue.

The “specialty” coffee machine cooler does not have a thermometer. All refrigeration units must have thermometers inside to check temperature to make sure unit is working properly.

• McDonald’s, 1272 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Nov. 22. Follow-up. The following violations were corrected: 3.4, 4.1 and 6.2. Thank you. The reach-in cooler by the drive-thru has solid leg replacing missing wheel. Thank you. PIC stated they had ordered wheel and were waiting on parts (corrected). The large accumulation of ice in walk-in freezer has been removed. PIC stated waiting on new drip pan to fix problem. The gasket is still broken on walk-in freezer door. PIC stated part on order. PIC showed me a copy of work order from Morris to fix walk-in freezer.

• Champions in the Making Forest, 333 Clinton St., Wilmington, Nov. 22. Note: Licensed as Class II facility. Everything needs to be pre-packaged or requires no utensils for service. Everything else looks good.
