MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State defensive lineman Colt Briggs has been named to the College Sports Information Directors Academic All-America team.

Briggs, a Wilmington High School graduate, who earlier was named first-team Academic All-District II, was one of just 48 players in the Bowl Championship Subdivision and the Football Championship Subdivision to earn Academic All-America status.

Briggs is the 35th all-time individual CoSIDA Academic-American from Morehead State, starting with football’s Don Russell in 1974. In all, student-athletes from MSU have now been honored 40 times, including baseball’s Matt Anderson earlier this year. Five athletes were honored in multiple seasons.

Briggs has a 3.80 GPA in biomedical science and was named this week as a second-team Academic All-PFL pick. He also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II team in 2015 and is a three-time member of the PFL Academic Honor Roll.

Briggs ranked tied for second in the conference with 17.5 tackles for loss and concluded the season ranked second on the team with 80 total tackles. He also had a team-best seven sacks and five quarterback hurries. He was the league’s Defensive Player of the Week following a four-TFL effort in a win over Valparaiso on Oct. 1.
