Clinton County Diabetes & Pregnancy Program Coordinator Laura Knisley was recognized Dec. 7 in Cleveland at the Ohio Infant Mortality Summit by the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Hospital Association. She was honored for her “time, passion, and commitment to the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies Initiative to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding of babies born in Ohio.”

Knisley also presented a workshop at the summit about the importance of evidenced-based maternity care practices for all moms and babies.

Aligning with Ohio’s plan to prevent and reduce chronic disease, Ohio First Steps program recognizes and awards Ohio hospitals for implementing evidenced based maternity care practices that include breastfeeding, skin to skin for all babies and community support.

The Diabetes & Pregnancy Program is a part of the Clinton County Diabetes & Wellness Program supported by United Way of Clinton County, HealthFirst of Clinton County and the Clinton County Health Department.

The program provides diabetes and nutrition education to pregnant women with gestational diabetes, along with connecting women to local resources such as lactation support, smoking cession, Help Me Grow and WIC if needed.
