WILMINGTON — The Ohio Educational Service Center Association recently honored Southern State Community College President Dr. Kevin S. Boys during its annual OESCA Capital Conference Brunch in Columbus.

Boys was presented with the Outstanding Leadership Award, which recognizes community leaders who have personally rendered specific leadership service which has significantly benefited all the local school districts in the county school system.

Dr. Boys has devoted over 31 years to K-12 public education in southwest Ohio, including his service as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in two suburban school districts near Cincinnati. Boys is the fifth president of Southern State Community college and is now serving his seventh year.

Boys regularly collaborates with all the superintendents and school districts in the region to provide expanded opportunities for students. He has attended superintendents’ meetings, assisted school districts with strategic planning, and shared the Southern State Facilities with area school districts and the SOESC.

With Boys’ leadership and collaboration of 30 area school districts, Southern State has doubled the number of high school students taking college credit plus classes.

Active in Southern State’s five-county service area and beyond, Dr. Boys is a board member of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce and Hillsboro Rotary Club. He is also active with Leadership Clinton and annually chairs the education day. He was recently appointed to the VFA Oversight Board of the American Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Governing Board.

In collaboration with Great Oaks, Boys assisted in developing a shared program in aviation engineering to meet the urgent need for a regional employer.

Boys is a member of the Executive Committee of the Southwest Ohio Council for High Education Board of Trustees. He serves on the Great Oaks Career Development Campus Business Advisory Council and is a Governing Board Member of the Southwest Ohio High Schools That Work and the Community College of Appalachia.

In 2013, Dr. Boys was called upon by Governor Kasich to serve as co-chair to the Ohio Education Funding Commission. That commission was responsible for facilitating all the colleges and universities to agree upon a spending plan for Capital Expenditures.
