Several months ago, the Wilmington Area Humane Society launched a shoe collection drive with the goal of collecting 2,500 pairs of gently used shoes which would be purchased by funds2orgs for shipment to underdeveloped countries. In return, WAHS was to receive $1,000 to help fund unexpected medical expenses of the pets that we take in.

We had no idea if we would reach our goal, but thanks to you, the caring people of Clinton County and some amazing businesses and organizations which served as collection points, we were able to collect a lot of shoes! Thank you to the Aarons, Cool J’s Salon, D&G Paws and Claws Snack Shack, Fraternal Order of Eagles, General Denver Hotel, Wilmington Public Library and the Wilmington News Journal. The clients of Main Medical went above and beyond cleaning out their closets and a big shout out to Sherry Meredith, Kathy Collins, Janet Schultz and Doretta Morrow for picking up shoes from collection points. Sara Peters donated over 200 pairs of shoes while Junior Girl Scouts Carolyn and Lainey collected a similar number, so we are very grateful to them!

Thank you to everyone who cleaned out their closets and spread the word about our shoe drive. You made it an incredible success as we surpassed our goal and received more than 3,500 pairs of shoes. Thank you, Clinton County, from the bottom of our hearts!
