GREENFIELD — The Clinton-Massie boys basketball team picked up its first South Central Ohio League win of the season Tuesday, 59-41, over McClain at the MHS gym.

“We did a good job of handling most of the situations through the game; we took what they gave us,” CM coach Todd Cook said. “It was good to get our first league win, on the road. And it was our first sweep, the freshman won by approximately 30 and the reserve won by approximately 20.”

Clinton-Massie is now 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the SCOL. McClain drops to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the league.

The Falcons were 18 for 22 from the free throw line, including 13 of 14 in the final period.

“It was a foulfest,” Cook said of the fourth quarter.

Nick Chowning was 6 for 6 at the line in the fourth and led Massie with 15 points. Trey Uetrecht had 13 points and Daulton Wolfe finished with 10, six of those in the first quarter.

Dalton Mischal led McClain with 13 points.

Clinton-Massie led early but the Tigers rallied to tie the game at 12 at the end of the first period. But the Falcons broke the game open in the second quarter, with Chowning netting seven to lead a 21-4 frame. Massie led 33-16 at the half.

“We spread the floor and attack and did a good job of getting to the basket,” Cook said. “They adjusted their defense a little bit. We drove and kicked it down low and our bigs started getting involved, well, everybody in general contributed.”

Even though the Tigers pulled within 11 at one point, Cook said the Falcons were able to keep a safe lead and the fourth quarter free throw success allowed them to secure the win.
