BLANCHESTER — Georgetown played an aggressive game from the start and outperformed Blanchester at the free throw line in a 49-40 win Thursday night in Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division girls basketball action.

The loss puts the Ladycats at 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the league. For the Lady G-Men, this was their first league win of the season.

“Coach (Bernie) Cropper had them extremely well prepared,” BHS coach Bennie Carroll said. “They did an excellent job against our pressure; they were patient in their half-court offense. They hit a big shot every time we seemed to be gaining some momentum.”

Georgetown also converted 17 of 22 free throws in the game while Blanchester struggled at the line, making just 5 of 18.

“We struggled to get anything in the basket early which prevented us from being able to set up our pressure a whole lot,” Carroll said. “We missed a lot of easy shots and we were only 5 of 18 at the free throw line.”

Elecia Patton led the Ladycats with 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers.

“Georgetown is only 5-9, but they have been very competitive in the majority of their losses,” said Carroll. “I knew it would be a difficult game. They were changing defenses on us a lot, which prevented us from getting into any kind of rhythm on offense.

“Georgetown was the more aggressive and more physical team from beginning to the end of the game. They beat us to every loose ball.”

Carroll said his squad will “just get back to work and try to get better.”

Blanchester faces Bethel-Tate on Monday.
