PTO integral part of CM students’ lives

CLARKSVILLE — Field trips, author visits, guest speakers and more — PTO sponsors extras that serve, support and supplement the work of students and educators.

Clinton-Massie Local Schools realized long ago that helping children succeed required a partnership between parents and educators and an understanding that each student is unique in his or her learning style and life circumstance.

Committed to working behind the scenes to not only enhance the educational experience but also quality of life, the Clinton-Massie PTO offers students support in the classroom and beyond.

Activities such as COSI, Ticket Town, author visits, and the Sock Hop Carnival are well-known favorites among students, but PTO volunteers also work closely with teachers and school counselors to provide at home resources for students in need.

Each week, volunteers prepare Falcon Packs that provide students three meals a day for weekends and holidays.

Hygiene Boxes containing washcloths, soap, deodorant, and body lotion, toothbrushes and tooth paste, shampoo and conditioner and other essential items are also available.

The PTO works closely with the Clinton-Massie High School Food Pantry by supplying milk for the monthly give-out days and by donating a portion of the proceeds from the annual Christmas in the County Craft Show.

In an effort to enhance classroom instruction, PTO volunteers stock and operate the school store, provide classroom supplies, and assist teachers with tasks such as laminating, organizing materials, and distributing take-home correspondence.

During report card fairs, the PTO prepares meals for faculty and staff, thus, allowing a smooth transition from the school day to parent teacher conferences.

At the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, the PTO announced plans to install water bottle filling stations in the elementary, middle and high school buildings.

The PTO also recently purchased KeepnTrack management software that allows each building to more efficiently monitor the comings and goings of students, visitors, and volunteers.

And the recent addition of “Buddy Benches” on the elementary school playgrounds helps to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship among students without saying a word.

The PTO is an integral part of Clinton-Massie Local Schools. Its members’ commitment and contributions make a difference in the lives of Massie’s students, educators, and educational leaders.
