CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy just wouldn’t go away Tuesday. The Eagles hung around long enough to outlast Clinton-Massie 63-59 in a non-league boys basketball game.
The Eagles (10-3) overcame a 53-46 early fourth-quarter deficit to lead 58-57 with 1:17 left in the game.
Massie (3-9) had three opportunities to tie or take the lead after that. The Falcons’ attempt to tie the game at 62 with 4 seconds to play missed the mark.
“We were looking for a three on the back side with an opportunity to drive,” CM head coach Todd Cook said.
CHCA also overcame an 11-point second-quarter deficit to take a 33-32 lead early in the third quarter.
“I just keep preaching to the guys that they have to win every quarter,” Cook said. “We turned the ball over (three of the first four possessions of the fourth quarter), and then didn’t box out and they put it back in and we foul them.”
Eagle Mason Bernhardt led all scorers with 19 points, five of them in the fourth quarter.
Noah Greathouse led the Falcons with 18. Trey Uetrecht and Thomas Myers also reached double figures for the Falcons with 12 and 10, respectively. They combined for 10 points of Massie’s 13-2 second-quarter spurt.
“I’m pleased with our effort,” Cook said. “But we’ve got to finish the game.”
