MOUNT ORAB — Overcoming a slow start, the undefeated Summit Country Day Silver Knights defeated Blanchester Wednesday, 81-34, at Western Brown High School in a Division III sectional tournament game.
The Silver Knights, the third-ranked team in the final Associated Press boys high school basketball poll, improved to 23-0. Blanchester ends its season at 12-12.
“We let their name intimidate us a little bit,” BHS head coach Adam Weber said. “We settled for three-point shots. That’s what happens when you settle for three. It bounces off and they’re going to get runouts. I’m disappointed we couldn’t grit our teeth a little bit and run what we wanted to run.”
Both teams struggled to score in the first four minutes, with the teams combining for just seven points over the opening 3:24.
Summit got its high-powered offense in gear, making 72 percent (18 of 25) of shots inside the arc in the first half.
Meanwhile, Blanchester shot just 29.6 percent overall, including 1 of 11 from three-point range. Summit led 44-18 at the half.
After making just 2 of 11 from three in the first half, Summit knocked down 6 of 18 in the second half as they cruised to the victory.
JD Wiederhold led Blanchester with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Dylan Miller added 10 points.
Sam Martin led Summit with 16 points. TJ Walker added 15.
Wednesday’s game marked the end of high school careers for seven Blanchester seniors: Wiederhold, Dylan Miller, Quenton Miller, Nick Hopkins, Harbor Lovin, Frank Guy and Blake Baker.
“Those are some great guys,” Weber said. “I love coming and seeing them every day. They’re exciting to watch play.”
