BEAVERCREEK — The Wilmington High School girls bowling season ended Thursday at the Division I Southwest District tournament at Beaver-Vu Bowl.

The Lady Hurricane finished with a 3,033 total, which included a six-game baker score of 808.

“We had trouble making spares, at times,” said WHS coach Josh Fisher. “They bowled about the same as the boys, their last game was their highest.”

WHS improved each game in the regular session — 695, 706 and 824.

Katie Hottinger led Wilmington with a 490 series (157, 149, 184).

In the bakers, Wilmington posted scores of 124, 148, 132, 120, 114 and 170.

“They were tough conditions,” Fisher said. “But it was good experience for them, for never being here before.”

Sarah Waln finished with 485 (170, 135, 180) and Sydney Shumaker had a 438 (130, 146, 162). Chasity Asher had games of 141, 139, 139 for a 419 series.

Melanie Taylor bowled two games, 137 and 159.

“We have a really young team,” Fisher said.

So how can Wilmington reach the state next season after this young team gained valuable experience.

“Just extra work,” said Fisher. “Extra time on the lanes, outside of the high school bowling season. It takes a lot of commitment from the kids and myself, but it may be able to happen.”

Kettering Fairmont won the tournament with a 3,840 pinfall total, just 20 pins better than runnerup Beavercreek (3,820). Centerville was third with 3,618, Troy fourth 3,603, Bellefontaine fifth 3,546 and Glen Este sixth 3,513.

Fisher said the low individual to make it to state that was not on a state-qualifying team had a 570 series.
