LAKEWOOD — The Blanchester High School baseball team opened its season Saturday with a doubleheader loss to Lakewood High School, 8-0, 9-3.
“Both games rolled out the same way,” said BHS head coach Aaron Lawson, who is a graduate of Lakewood High School. “We were very competitive for five innings then we let walks and errors haunt us late. Lakewood is a very disciplined ball club at the plate and in the field.
“We saw four arms and they were all above average. I am very happy we showed that we are capable of playing at that level. We just need to learn to play a complete game. The mistakes late in both ball games is what cost us.”
Jared Monhollen had two hits in each game for the Wildcats. Dylan Fawley had one hit in each game.
Lawson said Lakewood head coach Don Thorp is the winningest high school baseball coach in Ohio history. He has won three state championships in seven state appearances. Thorp has averaged 21 wins in his 44 seasons at Lakewood, Lawson said.
